Friends of Cowes Primary

All parents are automatically members of the Friends of Cowes Primary School (FOCP) and are very welcome to participate in all school events. We positively seek the support of parents from each new intake.

The FOCP organises a mixture of social and family activities throughout the year, which include fund raising events such as the Summer and Christmas Fairs and play an active role in supporting the school during Sports Days, Harvest Festivals and various meetings during the year.

If you are interested in finding out more about the FOCP, or would like to help with any events, please contact the school.

Punctuality

It is the parents' responsibility to see that their child arrives at school on time each day. It can be stressful for young children if they arrive late.

At the beginning of the day, please bring your child/children to the playground between 8.30am and 8.40am, where they will be supervised until going into class for registration. The school gates open at 8.30am and staff are only available to supervise children from that time. Early Years Foundation Stage pupils (Reception) are collected from the school hall.

Absence

If your child is away from school due to illness, it is important that you notify the school by 9.00am on their first day of absence and each subsequent day. Please call the school on 293261 and leave a message, or email us admin@cowespri.iow.sch.uk.

If your child becomes unwell whilst at school, we will contact you to arrange for them to be collected. Please ensure we have your up to date contact details at all times.

Leave of absence during term time is not permitted. However, if there are very exceptional circumstances, a request will be considered for time off for your child during the term. Please complete an application form available from the office and see the policy—their attendance will be reviewed. Unexplained absences will be followed up by our Education Welfare Officer. Important medical appointments are only authorised for travel time and the length of the appointment. Children need to attend school before and after the appointment.

Attendance

To achieve good results, pupil attendance is very important. Our attendance target is 92.95% and this is closely monitored each week. Please see the school's Attendance Policy for further information.

Full Menu Brochure

All our meals are freshly cooked on the premises in our modern kitchen by our catering team, called 'The Galley'.

We use as much locally sourced and organic produce as possible and our cooks have created a varied and exciting menu for the children.

A lunch consists of a main course and a dessert which are balanced and nutritional. Vegetarian options are always available as well as fresh fruit and bread. All children are encouraged to stay at school for lunch as this is an important time for them to further develop friendships and social skills.

Schools meals currently cost £2.80 for pupils and £4.60 for adults. All meals should be paid for in advance on the School Gateway App. Parents/carers are invited to join their child for lunch for special occasions throughout the year such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Grandparent’s Day.

Families in receipt of Income Support may be entitled to free school meals for their child. Please ask at the school office for an application form or contact County Hall on 821000 for full details.

Staff and Governors

The Governors have the overall responsibility for the running of the school. They are responsible for seeing that the school fulfils legal requirements (e.g. with regards to the National Curriculum) and the expenditure of the school budget. In all these areas the Governors work closely with, and are constantly advised by, the Headteacher and school staff.

The Governors are always pleased to hear the views of parents. Copies of minutes from Governors' meetings and Governor information are available from the school office.

If you need to contact a member of the Governing Body, please telephone the school on 293261, and we will be happy to put you in touch with the appropriate person.

The Director of Community Well-being and Social Care, Mr Ian Anderson, has overall responsibility for education on the Isle of Wight. The address of the Education Office is: The Education Directorate, Isle of Wight Council, County Hall, High Street, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 1UD, Tel: 01983 821000.
